Ohm
So the other day one of my socially undesirable friends came up to me and said, "Rex, my
slightly gothic, slightly hip, slightly disfigured girlfriend is coming into town and I
need a place to take her. It needs to be a blend of dark, brooding, loner-esque with
glimmer stick, indy rock decadence! Oh and live music would be a plus."
So I said, "Well friend its your lucky day, now take your finger out of your nose and
let me tell you about The OHM!
The Ohm is a Portland staple. In the past I am sure the Ohm was a safe haven for all
the suicidal, depressed, gothic folks around. But ever since Winnona Ryder made it cool
to look dead any angst ridden, teen with a black turtle neck and eyeliner have adopted
the clique and diluted it considerably. Now-a-days the Ohm is pretty much a catch all
for all types of interesting people. You have the goths, the wanna-be goths, the club
kids ect. All living together harmoniously in one environment (how sweet!).
The place is definitely a cultural event. You get the feel of a real big city club
with little fear of getting slipped a roofie. Most nights you have music playing,
either live or a D.J. There is a dance floor, colorful lights, and textured walls for
those of you on a chemical holiday. It doesn't have Guinness :(, but it does have
Black Butte Porter and all the well drinks you can shove down your gullet. Some of the
little perks include a few posh couches and a outdoor seating area for cooling off, it
gives you a sort of early renaissance feel. So as you can see I recommend this bar at
least once. Its kind of like going to the zoo. 8.75
