Your single, in your 30's, divorced, no kids, and you have a successful
career. Most evenings are spent watching Sex in the City (female) or the
most current sporting event (male). You often find yourself day dreaming about
the young coworker of yours who has yet to go through a bitter divorce and
still believes in love. Tonight you and your best pal have decided to hit the
town and give the singles scene a try. Already 10 years past the time you
would embarrass yourself at a dance club, you head to a small blues bar in
South West Portland.
As you walk in you grab a seat at the bar located in the middle of room. The
friendly bartender quickly comes to your service and you order up a mixed
drink (female) or a microbrew (male). You consider playing some pool, but
after a quick glance across the room you notice the only pool table is
already packed. You and your friend stick to the bar and combine a bit of
small talk with the popular people watching.
Two drinks later a large group of people walk in. At first it seems weird, but
you soon realize that its Norman Sylvester's entourage. This cool cat is the
blues band lead singer and performer. At 9:30 the band starts up and you
remember why the blues are so good. After about a half hour and another drink
you find yourself getting into the music, and you can't help but sing the
blues.
After two more drinks you leave the bar with a smile, knowing you had a fun
evening at a bar where you fit it.
